Filming in Hoima. Hoima is a city in the Western Region of Uganda. It is the main municipal, administrative, and commercial center of Hoima District. It is also a location of the King’s palace of the Omukama of Bunyoro. However, Hoima is located 200 kilometers by road northwest of Kampala capital of Uganda, a 4 hours’ drive from Kampala. Historically, Hoima became a district after Bunyoro splitting into two sections of the south which is Hoima and north in Masindi. Mparo Tombs.

Mparo tombs sits about 4 kilometers in Hoima along Masindi road. Originally, Mparo was the capital of Bunyoro in 1872 and were the famous resident of King Omukama Kabalenga. Unfortunately, Kabalenga passed on and his body was buried in Mparo tombs after his death in 1923. The tombs are a historical site compared to the popular royal tombs in Kasubi. Bunyoro Kingdom –Bunyoro Royal Palace.

Katasiha Fort and Caves  

The Katasiha Fort and Caves it’s every rewarding sites located 2 kilometers away from the Hoima town and is one of the best preserved historical places in Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom which was once the biggest fort in the region, constructed by one general Colville after King Kabalenga abandoned Mparo in 1893.  They had to provide security around through digging an 8 meters deep down the trench surrounding the place.

Kabwoya game reserve

This reserve is located 70 kilometers away from Hoima and extends its size to the shores of Lake Albert and around Albertine escarpment. The Kabwoya game reserve is a home of diversity of different wildlife living in this region such species are Uganda kobs, Jackson’s hartebeest and other wildlife species include Buffaloes, Warthog. The best done activity here is, Game viewing which is more interested in the morning hours when most of the animals are out on hunt for food.

Visit Lake Albert

On visit to Hoima location, you can also access to Lake Albert which is just few hour drive from Hoima. Necessary requirements to film in Hoima.

Filming in Hoima. It will require you to get a filming permit when filming in locations and these permits are issued by the respective authorities and management. For one to film in the national parks, you will need to get permission from Uganda wildlife authority.  In order to get a Filming Permit, one must write a letter requesting the permit and fill out an application form which is accompanied by a copy of the screenplay, a story synopsis, and a shooting schedule. These are then sent to the respective authorities. Media Accreditation.

All members of the crew are supposed to be accredited by the Uganda media council to be able to film in the country. Media accreditation is a must for all applications to make feature films or documentaries. Each crew member is required to fill Form G with all details, scan and send it back to us with a copy of his/her passport as well as one photograph to be put on his/her media card and work IDs. On top of this, we will need a letter from the filming company detailing who they are, why they are filming, where they will be filming and details of crew members on this shoot. Crew members will also be required to seek for letters of Good conduct from Interpol (it’s a must have). We will attach this to all details provided and send them to Uganda Media Council for Media card processing and follow it up. This takes about 2-3 working days.

Custom clearing.

Uganda is not a member of the Carnet Free Systems Unions, so Carnet’s are not valid. The only process to get your equipment in and out of Uganda is through a bonded Agent. A comprehensive list of equipment and value needs to be submitted to URA through a bonded clearing agent for the issuance of a Temporary Import Permit (TIP). A fee equivalent to 10% percentage of the value of the equipment is payable. This fee is non-refundable but will guarantee you safe entry and exist with your equipment.
